It has come to our attention that some CAAR members have received fraudulent emails posing as trusted vendors. CAAR urges our members to review and use secure practices in all aspects of online activity and communication.

CAAR would like to inform our members of an online phishing scam in which emails impersonating trusted vendors are being sent from illegitimate sources.

If you have received a suspected phishing email, contact the vendor directly to verify its validity before clicking on any hyperlinks within the email.

If you have inadvertently launched any hyperlinks from a suspected phishing email, please consult with your IT department on how to proceed.

Recognizing and Reporting Fraud

CAAR recommends members take this as an opportunity to review secure practices for online activity and communication, and how to recognize and report fraud.

Click here to review the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s (CAFC) signs to recognize phishing scams and other common online scams, and the steps to protect yourself and your business.

If you have been the victim of fraud, contact the CAFC by phone at 1-888-495-8501, or click here to use the CAFC’s online Fraud Reporting System.

Please note that the CAFC is a central repository for fraud data, not a criminal investigative agency. Please contact your local police service if you have been the victim of fraud.
