Manitoba winter nutrient application deadline extended to midnight on Nov. 14.

Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship announced that as soil temperatures have not yet reached the freezing point, so there will be a provincial variance in effect that extends the deadline for winter application of nutrients containing nitrogen and phosphorus in Manitoba by five days. Nutrients cannot be applied after midnight on November 14, 2015.

CAAR was pleased to have been a key stakeholder in discussions with Manitoba Conservation, Keystone Agricultural Producers, and other representatives regarding the need for a variance, as identified in consultations with CAAR members in Manitoba. Weather and soil conditions remain ideal for fall fertilizer application, and CAAR appreciates that this variance recognizes this and allows Manitoba producers more time to efficiently manage their land.

See www.manitoba.ca/nutrientdates for more details, updates to the variance and the complete list of conditions that apply. Producers are also reminded to consider local conditions as well as local, provincial, and federal legislation when considering nutrient application. Please ensure your customers are adhering to all conditions of this variance.

CAAR will meet regularly with Manitoba Conservation as winter and spring deadlines approach. If you require a variance to the November 10 or April 10 deadlines, please contact Delaney Ross Burtnack at This email address is being protected from spambots.
