CAAR, Fairmont Macdonald and Westin Edmonton will follow Canada’s Health and Safety guidelines, as well as Alberta laws and restrictions.

Provincial Requirements

  • The Government of Alberta currently imposes no additional travel restrictions upon international travellers to Alberta.
  • Travel exemptions (including Industry Travel Exemptions) from the provincial government are no longer required.
  • Federal travel restrictions continue to apply.

International Arrivals & Departure

Federal requirements for all travellers returning from outside of Canada

  • International travellers arriving into Canada must comply with federal travel restrictions, including entry requirements and mandatory COVID-19 testing (where applicable).
  • Fully vaccinated foreign nationals may be allowed to enter Canada for discretionary travel.
  • Effective August 9, American citizens and permanent residents of the United States, who currently reside in the United States, who qualify as fully vaccinated.
  • Effective September 7: All other foreign nationals who qualify as fully vaccinated.

Plan for your travel
All travellers entering Alberta from outside Canada must have appropriate plans and the necessary supports in place to quarantine for 14 days (in the case that this is required). Travellers must submit their quarantine plans through ArriveCAN using the online portal or the ArriveCAN mobile app before boarding a flight back to Canada or arriving at the land border crossing.

Consider the following in your plan:
  • the location of your 14-day quarantine
  • how you will travel to your quarantine location
  • how you will avoid close contact with people in your household, especially seniors and people with chronic conditions or compromised immune systems
  • how you will get necessary supplies and supports (food, medication, cleaning supplies, child care and pet care)
  • social or family support (you can’t visit anyone or have visitors while in quarantine)
  • travellers must present proof of a negative COVID-19 pre-travel test result to the airline before boarding a flight to Canada or to the border agents upon entry if entering Canada by land
Steps for arriving in Alberta
  1. Register and submit your travel, contact and quarantine information on  ArriveCAN using the ArriveCAN mobile app or through the online portal within 72 hours of your planned arrival.
    • Travellers to Canada must submit proof of vaccination in ArriveCAN before their arrival to Canada.
    • Visit  COVID-19 vaccinated travellers entering Canada for more information.
    • Travelers should register in advance with Switch Health for arrival testing. Travelers no longer need to register with the Government of Alberta.
  2. Follow instructions given upon arrival for completing your arrival test (partially and non-vaccinated travellers, and fully vaccinated travellers selected for random mandatory testing).
    • Partially or non-vaccinated travellers arriving into Canada will either be tested on-site upon clearing customs or provided a take-home test kit to complete their arrival test.
    • Fully vaccinated travellers selected for random mandatory testing may be tested on-site or provided a take-home test kit. No additional tests are required.
    • Full instructions on how to register your take-home kit online before taking your sample are included with the kit.
  3. Proceed to your destination.
    • If partially or non-vaccinated, proceed to your home or quarantine location to complete your 14-day quarantine.
    • If deemed fully vaccinated by Canadian customs officials, no further travel restrictions apply. No quarantine required.
  4. If partially or non-vaccinated, complete a follow-up test 8 days after arriving in Canada.
    • Regardless of your port-of-entry kit, you will be given a additional take-home kit for use to complete this test. For travellers flying in to YYC after September 15, completing your day 8 test at a local pharmacy is no longer an option.
  5. Partially and non-vaccinated travellers, if you have no symptoms and your second test result comes back negative, you may exit quarantine once you have completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine.
  6. Self-monitor your health. If you develop symptoms of COVID-19, isolate yourself immediately until you are feeling well again.

Flights with confirmed cases
Recent passengers on domestic and international airlines should monitor the Government of Canada list of flights that have confirmed COVID-19 cases and follow instructions if affected.
Departures
All air passengers age two and older traveling to the U.S. must be tested for COVID-19 no more than three days before their flight. This rule includes U.S. citizens and everyone who has already been vaccinated. Travelers must show proof of their negative results before boarding their plane.

Passengers are responsible for knowing which kind of test they may require and should consult their airline in advance or research their destination. Additional information is also available on the Government of Canada website. 

How to get a test

1. Book your appointment online at the Numi Health website.
2. Arrive early enough at the airport to account for this screening test
3. Go to the screening location, between Doors 26-27 on the Departures Level of the terminal
4. Register with Numi Health and have the screening test done.
5. If you are booking an antigen test, please wait for your results documentation before leaving the immediate area. If you are having a PCR test, results will be sent to you via email at a later point.

Compassionate exemptions

For partially and non-vaccinated travellers, the federal government has in place a compassionate exemption online application process for those seeking a limited release from quarantine to visit a patient, client or resident who is receiving critical care for a life-threatening illness or imminent end-of-life care, and/or to attend a funeral or celebration of life event.

CAAR Communication

Advance communication to all attendees on what to expect and prepare for at the conference: from registration to conference materials to room layout to food and beverage options and more. Education and training for the team to ensure we provide a safe and secure conference experience. Distribution of local health-resource information in advance of the event. Ongoing communication and advance planning with the venue regarding enhanced cleaning and sanitizing measures, response strategies and other onsite protocols.

Safety and Physical Distancing

Physical distancing protocols such as limiting attendance, directional signage and markers throughout the conference. A conference room layout with planned seating for appropriate physical distancing. We continue to work closely with our venue partners to ensure the safety of our attendees. Please check back frequently as we monitor and evolve our plan in the weeks ahead.

Increased Cleaning and Sanitation

Placement of hygiene stations throughout the conference including the registration area, meeting spaces and high frequency areas. Availability of personal hygiene and safety products including facial coverings where available.

Reduced Touchpoints

Reduction of the physical distribution of onsite materials. Food and beverage options that ensure minimal handling and exposure.
