The critical period of spring planting is fast approaching with much uncertainty of additional measures to manage the spread of COVID-19. It is with this in mind, CAAR is developing an online Agri-Retailer Support Resource Area.

The Canadian Association of Agri-Retailers (CAAR) has initiated communications reminding Provincial and Federal Ministers and agencies that agriculture production, infrastructure and logistics, and agri-retailers remain an essential service to help ensure an uninterrupted flow of seed, fertilizer and crop protection products for the spring planting season.

Essential-service recognition falls under provincial health jurisdictions. It is paramount that interprovincial and international movement of agriculture supplies and services are aligned and unabated. As provinces announce more economic restrictions associated with COVID-19 spread, we are encouraged that agriculture continues to be identified as an essential service.

As more restrictions are implemented, unintentional disruptions to the agricultural supply chain are likely to occur. As issues come up, Canadian agri-retailers are encouraged to submit questions or reporting’s identifying any supply chain disruptions. The questions, comments and answers will be posted for public view on caar.org.
