Last week's Western Canadian Crop Production Show saw Monsanto BioAg representative Ryan Bartlett speak on the topic of microbials and their possibilities for the future of farming.

Described as "probiotics for plants", microorganisms that support soil nutrition and shield plants from disease are currently being used on acres in Saskatchewan. Bartlett said the potential for expanding this industry is exponential, with the agri-business giant hoping to increase microbe-treated acreage to 500 million acres worldwide by 2025.
