Last week, CAAR had the opportunity to present on behalf of the anhydrous ammonia industry to members of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) B620 committee, regarding several concerns with amendments included in the 2014 versions of both the B620 and B622 standards that were identified by CAAR in January 2016.

Among our delegation was representatives from Fertilizer Canada, CPS, Richardson and McMaster Farms.

We are very pleased to share that the committee heard our concerns, and has afforded us the opportunity to build our case and offer a proposed solution at the January 2017 meeting. We will begin to formulate an action plan that will incorporate the efforts of our group members and CAAR’s membership.

CAAR’s action plan will continue to incorporate the data collected from retailers regarding tank testing history in Canada.  If you have not already done so, please respond to CAAR’s survey, found here, to help us complete the profile of how many anhydrous ammonia tanks are in service in Canada, and the details of any hydrotest or in-service failures where the integrity of the tank failed.

We will follow up shortly with more details of how you can join our effort to manage the significant impact these amendments are likely to have on the ammonia fertilizer industry.
