The Ontario Ministry of Transportation is currently accepting comments on proposed regulatory amendments to align license renewal requirements for Class D drivers with those currently  in place for all other commercial classes.

This includes knowledge and vision testing requirements, as well as medical filing requirements, consistent with national medical standards established by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administration (CCMTA).

All commercial drivers (Class A, B, C, D, E and F) are currently required to file a medical report upon application. Classes A, B, C, E and F in Ontario are currently required to complete knowledge and vision testing and file medical reports based on their age on a cyclical basis (see regulation 340/94 of the Highway Traffic Act).

Class D drivers are not subject to vision and knowledge requirements until age 65 and are not subject to cyclical medical filing until age 80.

These proposed regulatory amendments aligning licensing requirements for Class D drivers have been posted on the government's regulatory registry for public consultation. The posting will be open for comments and review for 45 days.
