Retailers can demonstrate their commitment to ag safety by participating in Canadian Agricultural Safety Week – March 10-16, 2019. The theme of this year’s Ag Safety Week is “Build an AgSafe Canada.”

Held annually in the third week of March, Ag Safety Week focuses on the importance of farm safety and provides farmers and members of the industry with valuable resources and tools. This year marks the start of a three-year campaign called “Safe and Strong Farms.” The campaign aims to empower farmers, farm families and farming communities to build, grow and lead the agricultural industry in safety and sustainability.

Resources available to farmers on the Ag Safety Week website include a “Building Safety on the Farm” spring safety checklist and visitor orientation, as well a series of information sheets and personal assessments related to mental health for farm families. The “Building Wellness on the Farm” series covers topics such as dealing with conflict, making transitions, living with stress and maintaining healthy relationships, and reminds farmers that taking care of their health and wellness is an important part of staying safe in their day to day activities. Visit the Ag Safety Week website to download resources and get more information on Ag Safety Week events in your area and across the country.

To show support and help raise awareness of farm safety, CASA and Farm Credit Canada are asking Canadians to wear a ribbon in support of Safe and Strong Farms. The ribbons are available at no charge through the Ag Safety Week website, and may be distributed to your staff, customers and members of the community as a means to start conversations about farm safety. Click here to order your ribbons.
