Levels of spring flooding continue to be dependent on future weather conditions, however the risk of overland flooding is slightly reduced since the February outlook while it still remains moderate to major across the province, Infrastructure Minister Blaine Pedersen announced today.

Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay and Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler announced that the federal and provincial governments are investing $25,000 to expand and create new opportunities for young Manitobans to learn about agriculture and food.

Syngenta Canada Inc. introduced Roundup Ready 2 Xtend trait technology to its soybean varieties in early March. The Roundup Ready 2 Xtend trait provides tolerance to glyphosate (Group 9) and dicamba (Group 4) herbicides, which allows growers to use multiple modes of action to manage weeds like glyphosate-resistant giant ragweed, common ragweed and Canada fleabane.

The new series will be posted on a weekly basis throughout the month of March and has been developed by Farm Credit Canada's (FCC) Ag Economics team. FCC's Chief Agricultural Economist, J.P. Gervais will narrate the series. Each episode will be available for publication or broadcast, with each blog piece accompanied by an audio file that can be shared in whole or in part.

CAAR participated in the second Maximum Residue Limits (MRL) Steering Committee meeting in Winnipeg, MB on January 24, 2017. This steering committee was established in late 2015 by the Canada Grains Council to develop a national policy across all commodity value chains to make recommendations on the use of various pesticides.

CAAR has been actively working with retailer members and Fertilizer Canada seeking a resolution to the concerns brought forward to the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Transport Canada regarding changes published in the 2014 version of the B620 and B622 standards.

Transport Canada is reviewing the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations under Part 6: Training, seeking to modernize and standardize TDG training with the goal of strengthening training requirements and enhancing the safe transport of dangerous goods.
