Bayer CropScience Inc. (Bayer) is set to broaden its operations in the canola sector with the acquisition of a canola treating and packaging facility in Coaldale, AB, previously owned by HyTech Production Ltd. The transaction is expected to finalize on November 1.
Antoine Bernet, President and CEO of Bayer CropScience Inc., expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, highlighting the strategic importance of the facility in enhancing Bayer’s canola business.
The facility’s prime location and design are considered ideal for supporting not only current demands but also future expansions.
While HyTech Production Ltd. will continue to retain its other assets and hybrid seed production capabilities, this move allows them to focus more intensely on improving their service offerings and exploring innovative seed production methods.
Co-CEO Cameron Van Roon emphasized HyTech’s commitment to quality and long-term value for customers and seed growers.
This strategic acquisition is expected to streamline Bayer’s operations, allowing for a smoother transition of canola seeds from its Parent Seed Production Site in Cranbrook, BC, to its Seed Cleaning Facility in Lethbridge, AB.
The integration of the new facility will provide Bayer with greater control and visibility over the entire seed production process, from treating to packaging, ensuring higher service levels and supply reliability for its customers.
Upon closing, Bayer will take over the facility and welcome the existing HyTech employees to their team, ensuring a seamless transition and continuity in operations. This acquisition marks a significant step in Bayer’s commitment to enhance its agricultural offerings and support the farming community more effectively.
