Bayer CropScience Update on Canadian Glyphosate Supply

The crop chemistry market worldwide is experiencing historically tight supply due to challenging global trade flows, the pandemic and extreme weather events which have continued to put pressure on tight supplies.

Recently a supplier of a raw ingredient needed to produce glyphosate and Roundup branded ag herbicides at our Luling, Louisiana plant suffered an equipment failure at their plant producing an important ingredient.

Our supplier is on track to restore capacity quickly and we’ve sourced additional raw materials and made other changes in production in the interim to help best manage the situation.

This failure however, and the resulting shortfall in product, will have some near-term impacts on our active ingredient production for glyphosate and supply to Canada. We are working through those challenges and will be communicating volume impacts of our branded Roundup products as soon as possible.

Demand for glyphosate remains high globally and Bayer will continue to focus efforts to help ensure our customers have access to our Roundup branded ag herbicide products in Canada.

Due to the historically tight supplies on crop protection products, we’ve already been working with our customers on supply management of our Roundup-branded products, and that will continue for the foreseeable future as we work together to meet their needs.

We’re are working diligently to serve our customers and will continue to keep you up to date as we navigate these challenges.
