26 THE CAAR COMMUNICATOR AGTECH TRENDS Over the past year, the Canadian (and global) agricultural industry faced challenges from extreme weather to supply chain issues. Researchers and engineering teams have developed innovative agtech tools to address these issues and meet the goal of feeding a growing population—all while improving efficiency and yields. While these agricultural tech tools are different in their science, each ultimately aims to improve farmer performance. Here are five key trends anticipated to play a critical role in the agricultural industry in 2024. #1: Generative Artificial Intelligence in AgTech Of all the 2024 trends in digital agriculture, the role of Gen AI, or generative AI, is likely to be one of the most significant. The potential of Gen AI on the global economy is already being calculated in trillions of dollars, as the science presents us with a historic opportunity to optimize processes, cut costs, and importantly, fuel innovations through improved modelling to fuel decision-making. Companies are already using Gen AI through digital crop advisors, allowing agronomists to distill agronomic data into actionable recommendations 5 agricultural technology trends to watch in 2024 As more Canadian farmers are accepting of new technologies over ye olde tried and true, look at some ways more AgTech can improve the sector’s lot. By Ron Baruchi, Chief Executive Officer, Agmatix Although not all AgTech fits in the palm of one’s hand, the science is available there for farmers to use and improve the way they farm. waleed ahmed/iStock/ Getty Images Plus photo
