We’ve all heard the old adage “practice makes perfect”. It’s been around since the beginning of time and is a concept many people strive towards, myself included.

However, a few months ago I heard an interview on the radio during my morning commute in which the subject stated “practice makes better.” Not perfect – better. The idea of that has stuck with me as I’ve tried to adjust my thinking and work towards achieving some of this “work-life balance” I hear so much about.

The concept came to mind again recently, when I was present at the CAAR board of directors meeting following the CAAR Conference. It was said that by coming to the conference, every person leaves better. By coming together as an industry and learning from one another, we are all better. And isn’t that the truth? Whether we are finding insights in statistical data, sharing sales techniques, or learning from the example of others, it’s clear that we all benefit from learning, sharing and growing together.

It’s in that spirit of collaboration and enthusiasm for innovation that this issue of The Communicator was born. Our editorial team was excited to delve into the people, production and processes that make our industry better, so that’s exactly what we did. We are proud to have brought together some of the industry’s best and brightest, including the winners of the 2015 CAAR’s Choice Awards, to share with readers their experiences in running an operation, connecting with customers and growing their business.

It’s always a pleasure to share successes in our industry, and I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we enjoyed writing it.
Let’s be better, together.
