The annual CAAR Conference is my favourite time of year, and this is entirely due to the exceptional people in our industry.

The conference is not just a great opportunity to connect with the skilled and dedicated people in our sector; it’s a real opportunity to learn from them. As the factors impacting agri-retail become greater in number and complexity, the ability to quickly adapt and understand new technologies and challenges becomes crucial. Through the collaborative, face-to-face sharing of information that is the hallmark of the conference, it becomes so much easier for us to distill that information down to “What does that mean for me?”

This is what I experience every year at the conference: people exchanging information, discussing differences of opinion and experience, and ultimately learning from each other. When we tackle challenges together, we become so much greater than the sum of our parts.

This issue of The Communicator is your opportunity to share in the many exchanges that took place in February.

The issues and ideas discussed at the conference flow right into CAAR’s ongoing development of the programs that were established in 2015, which we will build on in the coming year.

Our strategic plan as we move forward to 2017 includes continued focus on Operation Ag Careers and the new Retail.AgriJobMatch.ca job board; new and enhanced training programs; support for our members with regulatory questions; as well as growing our presence at important industry events, roundtable discussions and initiatives of importance to retailers.

I was pleased to connect with so many of you in Saskatoon this year, and to once again have the chance to recognize a handful of companies and individuals for their achievements in our industry at the CAAR’s Choice Awards.

Much like this year’s CAAR’s Choice Award winners, our goal is to demonstrate excellence in the areas that matter most to our membership, to ensure that CAAR is ready and responsive in protecting the people and productivity of your business.
