Banner of Nurse Tank

Transport Canada has informed CAAR, the new editions of the B620:20 and B622:22 standards are now officially published and adopted in the TDG Regulations. As a result, CAAR members no longer require the equivalency certificate SH 11960.

In the 2020 edition of the CSA B620 and B622 standards, the pressure test frequency has changed from 3 years to 5 years for specific tanks used to transport anhydrous ammonia, such as nurse and applicator tanks.

The specific tanks must meet the following conditions:

  • the tank has been post-weld heat-treated and has a maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) of 1830 kPa (265 psi), or

  • the tank has been post-weld heat-treated and has a maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) of 1725 kPa (250 psi), and it can be demonstrated that the tank has been designed for anhydrous ammonia (NH3) use.
