CAAR was proud to speak on behalf of the agri-retailer industry at the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) B620/B622 Standard Technical Committee meeting that took place January 17-18, 2017 in Edmonton.

CAAR’s presentation was developed in close collaboration with members of an industry coalition that includes several ammonia retailers and Fertilizer Canada to discuss clauses published in the 2014 edition of the Standards that impact anhydrous ammonia nurse tanks.

CAAR has been working closely with members of the industry coalition over the past year to seek solutions to two primary concerns with the B620 committee and working groups:

  • Construction standards for new nurse tanks,
  • and increased hydrotesting and inspection frequency on ASME Code non-specification tanks.

Following the meeting in January 2017, Fertilizer Canada has been tasked with coordinating the B620 working group discussions to continue discussions and find an agreeable resolution to both of these issues. If a resolution is achieved at the next B620 Technical Committee meeting in June 2017 for inclusion in the B620-18/B620-18 version, CAAR will work closely with Fertilizer Canada and Transport Canada to seek equivalency until the new Standard is published.
